Saturday 25 August: Talk + Discussion about Theft in Art

16 August 2007

What's your opinion on artists who steal in the name of art? Where does art stop and crime begin? Come and join the discussion about legality and crime in relation to art with Atopia Projects, artist Scott Myles and others.

  • Saturday 25 August, 2.30pm
  • Location: gallery.
  • Admission free

Lifting is a show exploring instances when art gets in the way of what is considered “legal”. The show, curated by Atopia Projects, creates an archive of historical and contemporary works of radical appropriation- how theft and vandalism are “lifted” from criminal behaviour and into the art sphere.

The results are humorous and poignant revelations on the absurdity of the legal and social ideas of ownership, originality and copyright. Along with the gallery show, there will be film screenings and workshops to whet the palettes of the curious.
