Opportunity: Aberdeen Visual Artists Awards Scheme

04 December 2008

Aberdeen Visual Artists Awards 2008-09

Deadline Friday 27 February 2009

............................................................................

The Aberdeen Visual Artists Awards Scheme is a partnership between the Scottish Arts Council and Aberdeen City Council. The Scheme was established in 2000 to support the work of outstanding Aberdeen -based artists by awarding grants towards the cost involved in researching and creating new work. It is hoped that the Scheme will encourage artists to stay in the city and that the existence of the Scheme will raise the profile of Aberdeen -based artists at a local, national and even international level.

For more information contact: jmelville@aberdeencity.gov.uk

The Awards are open to Aberdeen -based artists of all ages, at any stage in their career, working in any visual media. You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to your work and to advancing your skills base and ideas.

You must live within the Aberdeen City Council boundary or work, maintain a studio space, or be a member of and regularly use a visual arts facility within Aberdeen.

The Aberdeen Visual Artists Awards Scheme has limited funding available and cannot consider applications to cover travel costs or from artists currently undertaking full-time study. We cannot consider applications retrospectively. All applications must relate to work or projects that have not yet been undertaken.

Artists who have received funding from the Scottish Arts Council’s Artists Awards Scheme or one of the other Local Authority Small Grant Schemes cannot apply to the Aberdeen Visual Arts Awards Scheme for the same project within the same financial year. To prevent duplicate funding, artists cannot apply to the Aberdeen Visual Arts Awards Scheme and the Scottish Arts Council for support for the same project. Equally artists cannot apply to the AVAA scheme and one or more of the other Local Authority Small Grants Schemes concurrently.

Successful applicants must submit a final report within 12 months of receiving their final grant.
