Sagolandet (Land of Dreams)

On 4 May 1983 Jan Troell’s daughter Johanna was born. Her father wonders what kind of a world she will have to live in. Troell seeks the answers with his camera and tape recorder. Ironically titled 'Land of Dreams’, this documentary portrays, from interviews with politicians to small and seemingly trivial stories of everyday life, a tightly regulated nation where social and technical progress threatens free will and imagination. When it was first released, Sagolandet created huge turmoil in the Swedish media and it was, and still is, a very revealing portrait of any modern society.
