Wednesday 18 April: Global Exposure
13 April 2007
Don't miss the final event of the Viewfinder season at Peacock.
Wednesday 18th April, 6.30pm
Learn how a new generation of creatives are getting themselves heard using new internet based technologies. The panel will include three representatives from organisations making new ground in their use of these 'new tools'.
As well as gaining an insight into their methods we shall also be asking...
- Are the mainstream media making effective use of the new possibilities?
- What tools are available to individuals and small groups on a budget and how effective are they?
- What developments are on the horizon and how can we all harness them?

The panel
Amy Hardie is Head of Research at the Scottish Documentary Institute and the founder of Docspace, as well as an award winning filmmaker. Dougal Perman, founder of Inner Ear ltd. a new media production company which produces the acclaimed internet radio station Radio Magnetic. Paul Spensley is Technical Manager at the internet TV channel, Lets Go Global and is also responsible for FC United's hugely popular website.
Amy Hardie
Amy is Head of Research at the Scottish Documentary Institute and the founder of Docspace, both of which are based at Edinburgh College of Art. She has won several awards for her previous documentaries, including a Creative Scotland award for A Beginner's Guide to Dying, a feature documentary in progress. Since the establishment of Docspace in November 2004 it has introduced high definition digital delivery in the UK, reassuring exhibitors of its stability and audience appeal. Docspace has also used the internet to connect audiences from all over Scotland in venues such as galleries, community halls and art centres, (as well as cinemas) to documentary directors, enabling them to participate in a shared conversation. www.scottishdocinstitute.com www.docspace.org.uk
Dougal Perman
Dougal runs Inner Ear Ltd., a new media production company making content for podcast, streaming, mobile and broadcast. Inner Ear was established in 2000. It's based in Glasgow and produces, amongst other things, highly acclaimed internet radio station Radio Magnetic and podcasts for a range of clients including Tennents Lager, Channel 4 and the Scottish Arts Council. Dougal is a musician, DJ, producer and has a keen interest in the creative opportunities presented by new technology. He was awarded the honour of best forecaster for his work in new media by The Drum magazine and strives to be innovative in his productions, while upholding traditional values of quality programme making and the art of telling a good story. www.innerear.co.uk www.radiomagnetic.com
Paul Spensley
Paul is Technical Manager at internet TV channel, Lets Go Global, which is run by and for the diverse communities of Old Trafford, Manchester & beyond.
The prolific output of Lets Go Global is evidence that community TV should not and does not mean a slump in technical or editorial aspiration - indeed, some of their 'graduates' are now being cherry-picked by the likes of the BBC.
More recently Paul has become involved in the delivery of online media content for the legion of fans following 'FC United'. The club was formed in 2005 by Manchester United supporters, disgruntled by Malcolm Glazer's takeover. The supporters club already has branches in over ten countries including France, Poland, New Zealand, the United States and Canada. The banner emblazoned across the top of their brilliant website says it all... 'for the fans, by the fans'.
