'Theatum orbis Terrarum', Marjolijn Dijkman, 2006
Developing works in an on-site manner, Dutch artist Marjolijn Dijkman reacts to a specific context by making temporary spatial shifts or adjustments to a given space.
These gestures often manifest themselves as installations that alternate the architectonic characteristics of a building, or site and as interventions into the social layers of public spaces.
In her research project 'Theatrum orbis Terrarum' (Theatre of the World) she connects issues around design to wider themes of local contexts. Small and large aspects of space, disregarding their geographical or contextual location are being questioned, photographed and archived. With ‘Theatrum orbis Terrarum’ Marjolijn tries to create a “different type of atlas”. This Tuesday she makes her digital ‘atlas’ public in a presentation at Peacock.
This event is part of the exhibition Adaptation. Redesigning the everyday, in which other works by Marjolijn Dijkman are also on display.
