This summer American artist Suzanne Lacy did a house swop with Peacock's director Lindsay Gordon. She left her home on Venice Beach, LA, to spend 5 weeks in the historic Aberdeen fishing neighbourhood of Footdee (pronounced Fittie). Lacy is currently doing research at Gray's School of Art, laying out critical questions on ‘public art now’.

On December the 1st the ‘Partners’ residency programme starts within an area of Aberdeen facing regeneration to encourage varied, local communities to participate in the arts. Three artists will each work and live for six months in the area. Eva Merz, who has a track record in socially engaged practice, is the first artist-in-residence and starts her job this weekend.

On Friday the 9th of March, an exhibition of photography opened at Peacock by Robin Taudevin, who worked in Glasgow shortly before he died. Robin was well known to many refugees and refugee organisations throughout the city and his pictures remain a powerful reminder of the reality for those seeking asylum.

ViewFinder presents: Visit Dungavel: Monster of the Glen. A film by Camcorder Guerillas, about what it is like to be a refugee locked up in Dungavel, Scotland’s only detention centre. Camcorder Guerillas is a Glasgow-based voluntary collective of independent, radical filmmakers, activists and artists. The film will be introduced by members of the collective. After spending a week diving into skips and bins for building material, artist/activist The Vacuum Cleaner has now finished a magnificent Ark out of cardboard. 22ndBrad Downey presents film of 'heart action'

On 10 May, the New York artist Brad Downey climbed scaffolding outside a building in Aberdeen’s King Street and ‘redesigned’ the red tarpaulin by cutting out a giant heart. The action, which attracted a lot of press, has been recorded on video and the artist will present the film of the action on 5 June, 7.30pm, at Aberdeen's brand new extreme sports centre Transition Extreme. In her research project 'Theatrum orbis Terrarum' (Theatre of the World) Dutch artist Marjolijn Dijkman connects issues around design to wider themes of local contexts. Small and large aspects of space, disregarding their geographical or contextual location are being questioned, photographed and archived, trying to create a “different type of atlas”. This Tuesday Marjolijn makes her digital ‘atlas’ public in a presentation at Peacock. Starts 6pm, admission free.

Swiss artist, theorist and curator Ursula Biemann examines the giant oil pipeline which starts at the Black Sea and passes through Georgia to the Turkish port of Ceyhan. Ten video files track the logistic technology of the pipeline, comment on the urban and rural transformations, engage with the people who live along side its trajectory and reflect on the oil history and politics of the region. Jonathan Jones, who worked for Peacock as a printmaker for many years, passed away in 2005. Jonathan's enigmatic artist collective Z + (Blue)2 , active between 2001 to 2005 in Aberdeen, expanded from printmaking into the fields of design, interactive programmes, film and video. A new exhibition is dedicated to Jonathan and his unique approach and skill as an artist. Opening night Friday 29 June, 6 - 8pm. Exhibition runs from 30 June - 11 August.

25thNew Book: Tillydrone.

Tillydrone, a community of 4000 inhabitants, is one of six regeneration areas in Aberdeen, an area with high concentrations of social housing, unemployment, drug and alcohol misuse, crime and anti social behaviour – a community with a bad reputation. During a six months artist residency Eva Merz experienced the community close-up; some of the women she met are represented in this book: in nine interviews they speak about their personal lives, their work, and views on regeneration and social problems in the community....
29thPlans for new Centre for Contemporary Art take a step forward

Peacock Visual Arts in partnership with the city's arts education and arts development teams have put forward a proposal for a new 'iconic' building in Aberdeen's Union Terrace Gardens. Last Wednesday Aberdeen City Council gave their backing in principal to the project. Sports and culture spokeswoman Councillor Jennifer Stewart said: "This is a hugely exciting project that can be a focus for the arts in Aberdeen and generate the kind of buzz that everyone in the city is looking for." Lifting creates an archive of historical and contemporary works of radical appropriation - how theft and vandalism are 'lifted' from criminal behaviour and into the art sphere. Aberdeen Central Labour MSP, Lewis Macdonald has today welcomed plans for the new Centre for Contemporary Arts proposed in Aberdeen's Union Terrace Gardens by submitting a motion to the Scottish Parliament commending the plans for the development. “I am delighted to lend my support to the plans for this exciting project." MPs Anne Begg and Frank Doran also recently expressed their support during a visit to Peacock.

Come along to the screening of 'Pickpocket', a film by Robert Bresson, next Thursday 20 September at 6.30pm. Michel (Martin Lasalle) is a petty thief who, after being arrested and then released, starts discussing the rights and wrongs of crime with the police inspector. 29thSaturday 10 Nov: Talk by Kenny Hunter

Kenny Hunter is a Glasgow-based sculptor who makes work for both gallery and public environments, shown in numerous public places across Scotland, the UK and abroad. His work is primarily figurative and is concerned with the connections between historical sculptural form and contemporary culture. In the past year he has worked on a suite of screenprints with Peacock's printmakers, referencing men who wrote about and defined modernity. In 2006 artist David Blyth worked together with a local sheep farmer during the lambing season, which resulted in the solo exhibition Knockturne in Aberdeen Art Gallery earlier this year. Over the past few months the artist has been working closely with Peacock on an ambitious suite of collaged screenprints, called 'The Little book of Spring Lambs'. 27thMinisters give green light to Art Centre for the North

Plans for the major new centre for the contemporary arts, the first of its kind in the North of Scotland, were today approved by the Scottish Government. The £12.5 million development is expected to be completed by 2010 and provide a much-needed boost to this part of Scotland's cultural provision. Peacock will be making a highly anticipated return to the Glasgow Art Fair this year which runs from Thursday 27th March to Sunday 30th March. On Tuesday 20 May the film 'Images of the World and the Inscription of War' will be screened at Peacock. The vanishing point of the film is the conceptual image of the 'blind spot' of the evaluators of aerial footage of the IG Farben industrial plant taken by the Americans in 1944. In the film it appears that it was only decades later that the CIA noticed what the Allies hadn't wanted to see: that the Auschwitz concentration camp is depicted next to the industrial bombing target.... Between January and April this year artist duo Roger + Reid were resident artists in Tillydrone, Aberdeen. Can you work even while you are asleep? Artist Tobaron Waxman proves with Block of Ice + 1/60, that he can. His impressive performance connecting labour and water ecology is the final part of 'No Time to Lose', an exhibition exploring the theme of 'overwork'. This impressive installation involving a heavy 200 pound block of ice suspended from the gallery ceiling.

12thPerformance by Novaia Liustra / 28 August

Novaia Liustra means ‘new chandelier’ in Russian and is an on-going collaboration between Japanese musicologist Masayuki Yasuhara and visual artist Yoshihisa Nakano. The two use a range of activities to explore, challenge and move beyond the boundaries of visual art and music. Their work has included installations, workshops, performance and the creation of Café Liustra in various venues across Japan and internationally. 3rdCity council confirms £3m capital grant for contemporary arts centre
Peacock Visual Arts is delighted to announce that Aberdeen city councillors this week confirmed a £3m capital grant for the scheme to build a new contemporary arts centre in the heart of the city. Resources management committee members voted overwhelmingly in favour of granting the money for the proposed project. We received thousands of messages of support in the run-up to this decision and would like to thank you all for your help in getting us through these challenging times. We are proud and grateful to have your support and will endeavour to deliver a project that will benefit the entire region.

The development of the iconic new arts centre in Aberdeen's Union Terrace Gardens took a big step forward this month. We have now secured a further £5 million towards the development in addition to the Scottish Arts Council's lottery grant of £4.3million. Aberdeen City Council made a £3 million contribution to the development and Scottish Enterprise confirmed an award of £2million to this important new facility...

Australian artist Tim Winters exhibits a series of 6 collagrahps he produced during his visit at Peacock this summer, together with works from Australia. Tracing his journey from Australia to Orkney 'Island to Island' is a series in rich, deep colours and subtle textures, both abstract and revealing a careful observation and analysis of landscape. 10thSeripop covers gallery walls with over 300 posters

Seripop are a Canadian based duo who bring a touch of psychedelic exuberance to the world of screenprinting. For the first time ever in the UK, they show a print retrospective of seven years of working together. Opening Friday 13 february, 6 - 8pm. Runs until 28 March. 15th'Castlegate' on show from 14 February

Early opening ale-houses, seagulls, religion and art, local artist Craig Barrowman brings together all the different experiences and elements of Aberdeen's unique Castlegate square. His show includes photographs, sound and documentation of interactions with the inhabitants of this colourful part of the city. Opens Friday 13 February 6 -8pm. Runs until 28 March.

25thPeacock awarded £90k to lead project for young people in Grampian

Peacock Visual Arts has been awarded £90,000 by the Scottish Government to lead a North-east project which recycles the proceeds of crime into arts and cultural activities for young people. The Creative Identities project runs in partnership with Scottish Screen and the Scottish Arts Council and aims to give young people the opportunity to take part in creative activities, thereby building their confidence and providing life-enriching experiences. 2ndCineclub Tue 2 June: Sagolandet (Land of Dreams)

Come along to Peacock on Tuesday 2 June for your free monthly film screening. This time we're screening 'Sagolandet (Land of Dreams)', [Jan Troell, Sweden, 1988, 185 min]. Ironically titled 'Land of Dreams’, this documentary portrays, from interviews with politicians to small and seemingly trivial stories of everyday life, a tightly regulated nation where social and technical progress threatens free will and imagination. How do collaborative relationships come about and evolve and what sort of resources do they need? These and other questions are explored during the networking event 'Creating Collaboration: A Process That Works' on Thursday 18 June between 6 - 8pm, at Peacock. 8thUpdate on Art Centre plans

Some of you will have seen the latest pictures of the proposals for Union Terrace Gardens backed by Sir Ian Wood recently and will be wondering what it means for Peacock. As so many of you have been supportive of Peacock's plans to develop a new Centre for Contemporary Arts for Aberdeen we wanted to update you as best we can. Peacock have not yet had the chance to discuss the results of the feasibility study into Union Terrace Gardens with our board and our funders, and as these discussions will be key to our future we have been unable to pass comment to date. However, we expect these discussions to take place soon and then will be able to say a bit more about what it means for the future of a new centre for contemporary arts for Aberdeen.

Peacock is delighted to welcome Ewan McIntosh of 4ip to give us his input on where we think digital media is heading. Ewan McIntosh works at Channel 4's Innovation for the Public Fund, as Digital Commissioner for Scotland, Northern Ireland and The North East. He's currently seeking ideas for web, mobile and games-based media that will help change the lives of people in Britain. Other speakers include James Littlejohn, Bill Thompson and Jono Sandilands. After the success of their first in a series of unplugged gigs, under the moniker of No More Soundchecks, Vocoustics and Interesting Music Promotions will present the second night of unplugged performances on Sunday 12 July at Peacock Visual Arts. This show will be headlined by the unique Men Diamler with support from Oliver Richard.

3rdPeacock touring exhibition opens in Calgary

Colin 'Puck' Kirkpatrick's exhibition 'The Cowboy and the Spaceman', produced at Peacock Visual Arts in 2006, has traveled across the Atlantic and will be on show at the Art Gallery of Calgary this month. The exhibition features the film made in Orkney with Peacock's Digital Coordinator Adam Proctor. The film focuses around environmental issues through the exploration of two different view of planet earth. The exhibition opens in Calgary on Friday 3 July and runs until 12 September.
7thYoung Travellers get behind the camera in Creative Identities project

For three days a group of young people from travelling backgrounds will be working with filmmaker Mark van Hugten at the Elphinstone Institute (University of Aberdeen), in conjunction with Peacock Visual Arts and Creative Identities. They will produce short films and learn about all aspects of the filmmaking process. Read on...
13thThe Brothers McLeod show their latest animation

The Brothers McLeod (animators Greg and Myles McLeod) are coming to Peacock for a series of children's workshops and to show their latest animations to the public. The two have been producing work together since 2000 creating 'Fuggy Fuggy', writing and directing CBBC's 'Pedro and Frankensheep' along with producing a series of adverts with Aardman Animations. Their recently completed film 'Codswallop' has just been in competition at the prestigious Annecy Animation Festival. A public screening is held at Peacock on Saturday 25 July at 6.30pm.

William Moulding is showcasing his vibrant new prints produced during his one-year residency in the printmaking department at Gray's School of Art. Rooted in drawing, the colourful works are playing with the tension between controlled and accidental results of the print and drawing process. Opening Friday 7 August, 6 - 8pm.
