7thThe Director's Cut 19 Feb - Allan Shiach

The University of Aberdeen presents a new series of discussions featuring acclaimed and international filmmakers – essential viewing for anyone fascinated by life behind the lens. On Tuesday 19 February Alan Marcus of the university will be in conversation with Allan Shiach. His films include a number of Hollywood hits, such as Castaway (1986) and The Preacher’s Wife (1996) featuring Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston , and more recently the critically acclaimed Regeneration (1997).
8thNow On: Memory Maps

This exhibition by David Rushton includes meticulous model interiors of an artist's workplace; the artist's studios, gallery, conceptual art museum, factory and classroom. A founder member of the Analytical Art Group in the 1960s and later a member of Art & Language, Rushton explores the cultural and material conditions of working in art as an unfinished ongoing narrative. Runs 23 February - 5 April.

8thOver a Barrel. Stories from the oil economy

2008 sees the 20th anniversary of Piper Alpha, the worst offshore oil disaster to have occured in the North Sea. Photographer Owen Logan's work is characteristically critical of the oil economy. This exhibition shows his view in a series of powerful portraits. Runs 23 February - 5 April.
11thCalling artists: awards of up to £1,000
To encourage the retention of art school graduates within the city of Aberdeen and to keep and support artists who have arrived here independently, Gray's School of Art offers the Gray’s Aberdeen Visual Artists Award scheme with grants up to £1,000, in partnership with the Scottish Arts Council.
15thBook Launch at Peacock 21 February - Hidden Ontologies
At the Aberdeen Art Gallery symposium 'Hidden Ontologies - Re-interpretation of a collection' on Friday 22 February six key speakers will discuss the involvement of artists engaging with and working within museum and gallery collections. Prior to the symposium there will be be a public book launch on Thursday 21 February, held at Peacock Visual Arts between 6 - 8pm. Admission free.
25thCineclub presents: Route 181

Route 181: Fragments of a Journey in Israel-Palestine (2004) is a documentary road movie by Israeli filmmaker Eyal Sivan and Palestinian filmmaker Michel Khleif that retraces the line of the partition of Israel and Palestine proposed by the UN in 1947. The film is shown in two parts: part one on Tuesday 26 February, 7pm, part two on 4 March, 7pm. Location Peacock Visual Arts. Entry free.
27thMinisters give green light to Art Centre for the North

Plans for the major new centre for the contemporary arts, the first of its kind in the North of Scotland, were today approved by the Scottish Government. The £12.5 million development is expected to be completed by 2010 and provide a much-needed boost to this part of Scotland's cultural provision. Lindsay Gordon, Director of Peacock Visual Arts said: 'We are delighted at receiving the Ministers' go-ahead."...
