Kenny Hunter (b. 1962 Edinburgh) studied sculpture at Glasgow School of Art. Kenny is a sculptor who makes work for both gallery and public environments. His work is primarily figurative and is concerned with the connections between historical sculptural form and contemporary culture. His works are shown in numerous public places across Scotland, the UK and abroad. In the North East of Scotland Kenny Hunter’s works can be seen at Aberdeen Art Gallery (Feedback Loop, 2003), outside Aberdeen University's Kings College (Youth with split apple, 2005) and at the Brander Institute in Huntly. Kenny Hunter’s work with Peacock Visual Arts was developed as part of a wider print portfolio by freelance Curator Claudia Zeiske.
About the new prints:
In referencing men who wrote about and defined modernity, Hunter has made a new text about constant and rapid change. The letters within the composition are compressed and stacked together much like city architecture, the colour inspired by urban signage.
Breaking up the words and tightly composing the letters into a rectangle reminds us of urban signs where the meaning of the phrase is reinforced by the minimalist quality of the letters and the space around them. These works shift between the readable and the abstract as we look at them. All these texts refer to the imperative for movement and constant change offering an alternative to classical inscriptions, which trade in their antithesis of certainties and timeless values.
