International Printmaking Summer School 2010

Gray’s School of Art, in collaboration with Peacock, are offering a series of printmaking workshops this summer run by internationally renowned artists. Three one week workshops will be held in July 2010 here at our spacious and well equipped facilities.

Keith Howard
Intaglio Printmaking
with Keith Howard
- Date: 12-16 July
- Time: 10 - 4pm
- Cost: £400 (inc. all materials)
Keith Howard is the leading printmaker in the world for the research and development of Contemporary (Intaglio-Type) Printmaking Techniques.
In this workshop he will demonstrate many new ways of creatively exploring Intaglio-Type printmaking.
Experienced printmakers who have a good level of understanding and experience with traditional or photo etching techniques will get straight to the heart of the safe etching and Intaglio-Type printmaking.
Those new to intaglio will be thrilled with the quick results and image-making potential that Intaglio-Type has to offer. With the addition of digital compatibility, the range of mark making is huge.

Paul Furneaux
Japanese Woodblock Printing

Paul Furneaux is a painter and printmaker who spent almost four years in Japan on a prestigious Monbusho (Japanese Government) Scholarship researching and completing a Masters in woodcut printing.
Paul will introduce you to some basic knowledge of printing with watercolour by hand with the aid of a ‘baren' (disc wrapped in Bamboo leaf). You will also be introduced to watercolour resist techniques of printing using varnish on the wood, a method developed in Japan.

Paper Making
Papermaking
with Elspeth Lamb
- Date: 26-30 July
- Time: 10 - 4pm
- Cost: £400 (inc. all materials)
Elspeth Lamb is an artist who works across several art forms: printmaking, digital prints, papermaking and artists' books. She has organized and taught printmaking and papermaking workshops at many art colleges, art centres and schools across the UK and abroad.
On this course, Elspeth will cover several aspects of papermaking, including:
- -Making paper from cotton linters
- -Working with dyed linters, mixing colours, using stencil techniques
- -Forming sheets from plant fibres such as rush, monbretia, daffodil
- -Using watermarking techniques to create ‘hidden' elements within a sheet.
Further Information
Peacock is well equipped with spacious workshops and digital labs to enable students to work in a diverse range of media. Levels of experience among participants will vary, however, we are happy to accommodate complete beginners as well as those with a more developed understanding of printmaking.
Accommodation
Accommodation is available in the city centre at very competitive rates. If you require accommodation please indicate when booking.
Fees
Fees for each course are as indicated and a deposit of £50 is required to reserve a space on the course. This is non returnable if cancelled. A similar deposit is necessary should accommodation be required. We will give a 10% reduction for early booking before May 1st. This only applies to the workshops.
