Workshops in January, February & March 2015

We have organised a series of one and two-day workshops for the first few months of the year. Led by our friendly, experienced and supportive tutors Michael Waight and James Vass, these are suitable for any skill level. Just bring yourself – all materials are included. Hurry and book so you can start printing! Techniques available are:

  • Screenprinting
  • Bookbinding
  • Drypoint

See below for more information, or call 01224 639539 to speak to someone and to book your place.

If you can’t find the best class for you, you can also arrange one-to-one tuition with us at very reasonable rates.

Screenprinting Weekend Workshop

If you cannot manage our January screenprinting workshop, this is another opportunity to join James Vass (this time over a single weekend) to learn the basics of this exciting technique. Explore the creative possibilities of this colourful, graphic and immediate approach to making repeat prints. You will learn how to expose transparent images using UV light and print different layers to build up your image. No experience necessary - just a bit of creativity.

  • Tutor: James Vass
  • Dates: Saturday 28 February - Sunday 1 March 2015
  • Time: 10 - 5pm
  • Cost: £130/95 conc.

Sign up now and get lots of opportunity to experiment with colours, shapes and textures.

Bookbinding Weekend Workshop

Take part in this bookbinding weekend workshop and you will come away with a selection of different books to keep or give away. Some will not need glue or stitching – some will! Some will be beautifully decorative and others will be very functional. The following books will be attempted during the class, depending on time and your requirements:

Pamphlet Stitching for one-section books

Japanese Stab Binding for two-section books

A Concertina-style book – no glue, no stitching

A Long Stitch Through Slotted Cover

17th Century French Sewn Hard-back book (if time allows)

  • Tutor: Mike Waight
  • Date: Saturday 28 February - Sunday 1 March 2015
  • Time: 10 - 5pm
  • Cost: £130/95 conc.

One-Day Drypoint Workshop

This is a wonderful process, where you traditionally scratch directly onto copper. A bit like a ploughed field, the furrow scraped gives you a lovely ‘fluffy’ line that can easily be made stronger or weaker by working the plate. There is no acid used with this process and therefore drypoint commands a relatively safe profile.

In this taster we will use thin Perspex to work on rather than expensive copper - so if you are unsure about drawing you can easily place an image underneath and trace the key parts of the picture. We can ink these plates similar to etching and enjoy the rich tones that Drypoint has to offer.

  • Tutor: Mike Waight
  • Date: Saturday 14 March 2015
  • Time: 10 - 5pm
  • Cost: £75/65 conc.

Terms and Conditions

Occasionally due to circumstances beyond our control Peacock may have to cancel courses and we reserve the right to do so with a minimum of one weeks notice prior to the start date. Full refunds will be given for any courses cancelled by Peacock Visual Arts.

For cancellation by course participants, full refunds will be given to those cancelling one month prior to the course start date. If cancellation notice is given two weeks prior to the course start date Peacock can only guarantee to refund 50% of the original cost of the course. No refund can be guaranteed if less notice is given. In this instance Peacock course fees may be refunded at Peacock’s discretion, only if we are able to fill your place. To help us do this it is important to let us know as soon as possible that you will be unable to attend.
